IPHONE FACE ID / TRUEDEPTH / SENSOR FORENSICS

Separate optics.
Separate buses. Prove the failed stage.

Diagnose TrueDepth as a chain of power, telemetry, optical projection, IR capture, security state and calibration rather than replacing the first module named by a symptom.

Each stage can fail independently. A Face ID message is a symptom; the repair decision should come from the first stage that cannot be confirmed.

01 — TRUEDEPTH ACTIVATION CHAIN

Trace all seven stages in order

Use the exact iPhone generation because component layout, pairing behavior and rail names can change.

02 — SYMPTOM-TO-PROOF ENGINE

Start from the failure message or bench behavior

Each route keeps multiple domains open until measurement or isolation narrows the fault.

03 — PAIRING / SECURITY / CALIBRATION

Preserve the original security state before replacement

The uploaded source treats several TrueDepth components as universally paired. V2 changes this to model/iOS-dependent service behavior and requires exact-generation confirmation.

DOT PROJECTOR

Projection + calibration + security state

Preserve the original assembly/data when possible. Before replacement or transfer work, confirm model-specific service/calibration requirements and whether the fault is optical, electrical or security-related.

FLOOD / PROX / ALS

Shared flex, sensor and telemetry dependencies

A damaged upper flex can affect proximity, ambient-light sensing, flood illumination and bus behavior. Do not assume the entire flex must be replaced from one token or boot symptom.

IR CAMERA

Depth capture and high-speed data path

Power, MIPI CSI-2, connector alignment and calibration/security state can all matter. Front RGB camera operation does not prove the IR channel is healthy.

SEP / SOFTWARE STATE

Hardware evidence must agree with software state

“TrueDepth camera issue” can reflect hardware, pairing/calibration, replacement history, or communication failure. Record repair history and software message before soldering.

04 — TRUEDEPTH RAIL / BUS DATABASE

Voltage + GR + resistance + protocol

Values are preserved as uploaded-source references, not universal Apple factory specifications.

05 — LIVE TRUEDEPTH EVALUATOR

Combine line state with the exact symptom

A normal line reading only proves that checkpoint within the tested state.

06 — SOURCE RULES CORRECTED

Do not convert a TrueDepth clue into a destructive repair

V2 deliberately removes several one-to-one conclusions from the uploaded V1.

“MOVE HIGHER/LOWER”

Not automatically a blown laser

Keep projection power, optical alignment, obstruction, IR capture, calibration and software/security state open until tested.

EAR FLEX UNPLUG TEST

Strong isolation, not absolute proof

If behavior changes with a flex disconnected, that implicates the flex/load/bus interaction but does not prove every component on that flex is defective.

PASSING GR/VOLTAGE

Does not prove full integrity

A line may still have intermittent, high-speed, connector or state-dependent faults despite a normal static measurement.

I²C CLAMP

Find the actual load

Measure with loads connected/disconnected and identify the device or trace causing the clamp before removing sensors or protection parts.

MIPI IR CAMERA

Static symmetry is only one clue

Matched diode readings do not prove high-speed CSI-2 data is valid; scope/functional evidence is preferred when available.

PAIRING / CALIBRATION

Generation-specific

Do not publish a single universal claim for X through 16. Record exact model, iOS/service state and replacement history.

07 — TRUEDEPTH CASE DOSSIER

Record what the repair actually proved

Preserve symptom, repair history, security state, measurements and isolation results.
